Launching the 8th International Conference for Biological and Environmental Sciences at Mansoura University

The events of the “ 8th  International Conference on Biological and Environmental Sciences” were launched on April 17, 2024, at the Faculty of Science, Mansoura University, under the title “Biological Sciences and Sustainable Development,” which was organized by the Departments of Zoology and Botany at the Faculty of Science in the period from April 17-21, in the presence of Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Muhammad Abdel Azim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Osama Ibrahim Al-Ayyan, Dean of the Faculty of Science and President of the Conference, and Conference Rapporteur: Prof. Mohamed Al-Saeed Abd Rabbo, Head of the Zoology Department, Prof. Ghada El-Sherbiny, Head of the Botany Department, the Vice Deans of the faculty ,and representatives of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.

Prof. Cherif Khater praised the conference’s keenness to develop an integrated agenda that includes many important scientific and environmental topics and issues presented locally and internationally, and to exchange ideas between participating Egyptian and foreign scientists, in line with the university’s strategic plan within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals according to Egypt Vision 2030. He pointed out that Mansoura University appeared in 12 global academic majors according to the QS ranking of academic majors for the year 2024, and was among the top 500 universities in the world in 8 academic majors. He added that the conference is an opportunity for scientists and researchers from various countries of the world to meet to exchange ideas and discuss the latest discoveries and developments in the fields of biological and environmental sciences in order to find effective solutions to problems with a strong social impact.

Prof. Mohamed Abdel Azim said that the Faculty of Science conducted joint educational programs between scientific departments, that led to distinguished scientific research. He pointed out that the Faculty of Science produces 30% of the university’s total scientific research. The faculty is also considered part of the identity of Mansoura University and its excellence in applied scientific research, which provides innovative scientific solutions to environmental and societal problems.

Prof. Osama Al-Ayyan said that the conference will discuss many scientific and environmental topics and issues raised locally and internationally, as the conference is concerned with the problems of climate change and carbon emissions, as well as cancer and Alzheimer’s disease research, with their impact on community health. He added that the conference witnesses the participation of Egyptian and foreign scientists from Germany, France, and Brazil, as well as young scientists, to enrich the scientific community. The selected research will be published in the Journal of Environmental Sciences and the Egyptian Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences at Mansoura University.
