Mansoura University Tops Egyptian Universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026

Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, announced a new international achievement adding to the university's record in prestigious international rankings. The university has achieved an exceptional accomplishment by topping Egyptian universities, ranking 316th globally in the Internationalization Index, which measures a university's ability to attract students and faculty members from around the world, in addition to the strength of international research collaborations.
The official website of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 revealed that Mansoura University was listed among the top 1,000 universities worldwide, ranking 801-1000 globally, out of 2,191 international universities. It also ranked second among Egyptian universities.
Prof. Cherif Khater expressed his pride in this significant progress, emphasizing that the university is pursuing a clear strategy based on academic and research excellence, international openness, and community service, thus enhancing Egypt's academic standing globally. He pointed out that the university's local ranking in the International Dimension Index reflects the success of its ambitious strategy to enhance its global standing. He explained that this honorable result is the result of well-thought-out plans to develop education and scientific research at the university, expand the scope of academic and research cooperation globally, support the international dimension, and attract students from around the world, contributing to enhancing the university's competitiveness on the international stage. He had also congratulated all Mansoura University staff, including faculty members, researchers, students, and administrators, emphasizing that this new international achievement consolidates the university's position as an integrated academic and research expertise, capable of competing globally and contributing to achieving Egypt's Vision 2030 for Sustainable Development and the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, expressed his pride in this qualitative achievement, emphasizing that it embodies the continuous collective efforts of various university sectors. He pointed out that the Times Higher Education rankings highlight the true value of universities' performance through precise indicators including teaching, research, innovation, and international openness. He explained that Mansoura University has worked over the past years to enhance international publishing, increase research partnerships, and provide a research environment that supports innovation, which is reflected in its advanced position in this prestigious ranking.
It is worth noting that the Times Higher Education World University Rankings is based on 17 performance indicators distributed across five main areas: teaching (learning environment), research (size, income, and reputation), citations (efficiency and impact), industry (knowledge transfer and impact), and international dimension (staff, students, and research).
The 2026 ranking included approximately 2,191 universities from 115 countries, with 36 Egyptian universities included, compared to 35 universities last year. Nine of these universities are among the top 1,000 universities globally, reflecting the state's efforts to support the international competitiveness of Egyptian higher education institutions.
