The Birth of Twins to a Woman Infected with COVID-19 at Mansoura University's Hospitals

The medical team at the intensive care units which were designated for isolation for COVID-19 cases at Mansoura University's Hospitals succeeded yesterday on Monday to carry out a cesarean delivery for a woman who was infected with COVID-19 and pregnant with twins.

The patient has 28 years old and arrived at the Emergency Hospital at Mansoura University in 21st October and suffered from COVID-19 symptoms and pneumonia as well as being pregnant in her eighth month. The patient was isolated in intensive care units at Mansoura University's Hospitals which were designated for isolation in 21th October after medical examination as the chest doctors decided to give her the treatment protocol of COVID-19 and follow up the state of pregnancy.

Doctors of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University's Hospital for isolation stated that the patient should carry out a cesarean delivery during her treatment at the hospital. Moreover, the administration of the hospital started to take the precautionary methods to treat the case. On Monday Morning at 4 a.m., the patient's condition began to get worse and doctors of obstetrics and gynecology decided to carry out a cesarean delivery to save the mother and her babies.

The operation room and the required neonatal unit were well prepared immediately to receive the newborns. The team of anesthesia at the hospital anesthetized the patient and the operation was successfully done. She gave birth to a boy and a girl in a good condition. The twins were transferred to the neonatal unit and the mother was transferred to the intensive care one in a stable condition to complete COVID-19 treatment at the hospital.
