The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Opens the Events of the 2nd International Conference of Stem Cells at Mansoura University
Today on Wednesday 16th December 2020, Prof. Khaled Abdel-Ghafaar, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Egypt opened the events of the 2nd International Conference of Stem Cells which was organized by Mansoura University entitled '' A Step Towards Clinical Trials'' as well as the events of the sixth conference of the research center for stem cells from umbilical cord entitled ''The Twentieth Egyptian-French Forum for Clinical Immunology and Tissue Compatibility''.
The conference was held via Video Conference and the attendees were Prof. Ashraf Abdel-Basset -the President of Mansoura University and Prof. Ashraf Tarek Hafez - the Vice-President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof. Farha ElShennawy- the Manager of the Research Center for Stem Cells, Dr. Dominique Sharon - Professor of Immunology and Tissue Compatibility at Paris University, and Dr. Philippe Menasche, Professor of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, University of Paris and Chief of the Heart Failure Surgery Unit of the Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou.
During the opening of the conference, Prof. Khaled Abdel-Khafaar, noted that the researches in regenerative medicine achieved a great progress and the result achieved powerful spread internationally and opened a great hope to face many incurable diseases. Further, he noted that in the last years, we witnessed a bigger step in the field of research applications in the treatment with stem cells as it were entered a clinical trials stage. Besides, he pointed out that the crisis of spreading COVID-19 Pandemic result in doing a great number of prestigious researches around the world in many clinical trials.
Prof. Ashraf Abdel-Basset, the president of Mansoura University stressed on the importance of the Egyptian-French cooperation in the exchange of experiences and scientific research in the field of immunity which is considered a rapid development in parallel with the diseases and the use of stem cells in treating many diseases. He noted that the University participated in Human Genome Project through the University's Research Center for Stem Cells from umbilical cord. He pointed out that this project receives a full support from the Ministry of Higher Education that mirrors the development of the scientific research in Egypt and finding out modern ways to treat many diseases.
Prof. Mohamed Ghoniem, the founder of Kidney transplant in Egypt, presented a lecture on using the stem cells in diabetes treatment for the patients with all its problems and how to plant stem cells in different ways, and the preventive ways of refusing the body to the transplanted cells. Prof. Dominique Sharon showed a report on the relationship of the effect of genetic diversity on the occurrence of tumors and methods of treatment, especially treatment directed to eliminate cancerous tumors.
Prof.Philip Manshay presented a lecture on clinical trial via stem cells in treating severe respiratory infection resulting from Covid-19. It is noteworthy that the conference discussed the updating in clinical trials in the field of cells therapy and regenerative medicine as well as the updating in treating COVID-19, especially stem cells from the umbilical cord during the pandemic. The number of the attendees was 100 participants in the field of using stem cells. Further, a number of experts in the field of the treatment through using stem cells were participated as speakers of the conference from (Egypt-France- Germany –Serbia-Ireland-UK-Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). Besides, a number of young researchers participated in the conference in all various fields of regenerative medicine.
