A delegation from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities visits Mansoura University

Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, received on August 5, 2024, a delegation from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, headed by Dr. Iman Karim, General Supervisor of the Council, in the presence of Prof. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi, Vice President of the University for Education and Students, Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Nevin Abdel Khalek, Director of the Services Center for Persons with Disabilities, Prof. Hossam El-Din El-Amir, Media Advisor to the Council, and Dr. Noha Suleiman, Technical Office of the Council.
The visit comes within Mansoura University's keenness to enhance cooperation with the Council to follow up on challenges and necessary procedures to empower students with disabilities and integrating them. The meeting discussed the role of Mansoura University in serving people with disabilities, communication mechanisms between the university and its students with disabilities, the facilities provided to them, and the various types of accessibility.
Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater said that Mansoura University pays great attention to all its members, including faculty members, students and administrators, stressing that the University's Service Center for People with Disabilities is one of the university's vital centers that has been allocated to serve students with various disabilities, as they are an integral part of the university community. This stems from the university administration's keenness to empower these students and provide them with all forms of support and assistance, in implementation of the political leadership's directives on the necessity of empowering students with disabilities, providing them with all means of comfort, and providing distinguished and appropriate educational services to facilitate the educational process, in addition to integrating them with other segments of society to achieve the principle of equality among students.
Prof. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi said that the university pays great attention to its students with disabilities in line with the state's policy of caring for them, supporting them and giving them all their rights on an equal footing with their normal peers, as all forms of support are provided during their studies at the university, including books, accommodation and nutrition in dormitories. All faculties and university facilities have also been rehabilitated to suit the needs of students with various disabilities.
Dr. Iman Karim praised the level of service provided by the university to its members with disabilities, and announced that the council is about to implement a number of activities within the Service Center for Persons with Disabilities at Mansoura University, stressing that the council will provide its technical expertise to serve the issues of persons with disabilities in society, in addition to providing a number of awareness services to them ,their families, administrators and faculty members working them.
Prof. Nevin Abdel Khalek pointed out that the center seeks to provide the necessary capabilities and facilities to enhance the involvement of students with disabilities in student activities implemented by the university, in addition to providing a purposeful educational environment that is concerned with building positive attitudes for them.
During the visit, the delegation inspected the halls of the Services Center for People with Disabilities, the educational services for them, such as printing books in Braille, recording curricula, providing training courses ,courses on sign language, and workshops on medical sign language that qualify dealing with deaf people. The halls where blind students are trained on how to take exams on computers without an escort were also inspected, in addition to presenting the center's various services, and the recreational activities organized by the center, such as internal and external trips, art exhibitions, religious and cultural competitions.
