President of Mansoura University receives a delegation from the Turkish University of Sinop to enhance academic and research cooperation

Prof. Tarek Ghalwash: Mansoura University is one of the Egyptian universities partnering with the European Erasmus+ program to fund exchange between higher education institutions and enhance relations between academic institutions.

Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, received on January 21, 2025, a delegation from Sinop University in Turkey, which included Prof. Muhitdin Yilmaz, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Riza Bayrak, Vice President for International Relations, in the presence of Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, and Dr. Mustafa Al-Ashmawy, Coordinator of International Cooperation and Erasmus Program at the University, from the Turkish side.
From the Egyptian side, Prof. Marwa Hassaan, Director of the International Relations Office, Assoc. Prof. Yousra Al-Far, Assoc. Prof. Shady Awni, Deputy Directors of the International Relations Office, and Dr. Mahmoud Abdullah, Coordinator of Tourism Programs at the International Relations Office.
The meeting comes during the visit of the Turkish delegation to Mansoura University, to sign a memorandum of understanding with the university to enhance academic and research cooperation and community service between the two parties within the framework of the Erasmus+ program.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, representing Mansoura University, and Prof. Muhitdin Yilmaz, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, representing Sinop University.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two universities, and the possibility of concluding a bilateral cooperation protocol between the two parties to enhance cooperation in the fields of scientific research, including aspects of academic, research and service activities such as the exchange of faculty members and researchers, joint supervision of master's and doctoral theses, conducting joint research activities and providing scholarships, establishing joint and dual academic degrees and special short-term academic programs, cooperation in e-learning programs, cooperation in consulting, training, teaching, learning and curriculum development, organizing joint international workshops, conferences and seminars, and exchanging academic and scientific materials and other information.
Prof. Cherif Khater welcomed the Turkish delegation on their first visit to the university, expressing his appreciation for their confidence in choosing Mansoura University to implement the first cooperation with an Egyptian university, pointing out that Mansoura University is striving to implement the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Egypt's Vision 2030, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership to expand international partnerships with institutions with a distinguished reputation globally, and to strengthen cooperation ties with all universities from different countries of the world. The President of Mansoura University pointed out the university's welcome educational, research and training cooperation with Sinop University, as well as his desire to enhance means of cooperation in the coming period. He added that the university has many educational programs and scientific specializations that are internationally accredited, as well as educational programs in partnership with international universities, in addition to the university's excellence in technological aspects and digital transformation, and its receipt of Egyptian government excellence awards in this regard, as well as its receipt of institutional accreditation as the first Egyptian university accredited by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education in Egypt.
Prof. Muhitdin Yilmaz expressed his pleasure to be at Mansoura University, which enjoys a great academic reputation at the international level, due to the advanced level he saw in various fields. He reviewed the history of the establishment of Sinop University, which is a governmental university in the city of Sinop, the far north of Turkey on the Black Sea side. It was established in 2007 and strives to develop technological, scientific, economic, cultural and social development, and implement scientific activities and research according to international standards. It also aims to create a generation equipped and educated with this information. He added that the university includes 8 faculties, 4 higher education institutes, 5 higher vocational education institutes, and 5 application and research centers. He also invited the President of Mansoura University to visit Turkey and learn more about the university, within the framework of enhancing ways of joint cooperation.
Prof. Tarek Ghalwash discussed the beginning of opening up cooperation horizons between the two universities in the field of research cooperation and international publishing, following the signing of the memorandum of understanding, noting that the Erasmus program is an exchange funding program for higher education institutions with the aim of improving the quality of higher education and strengthening relations between academic institutions, which also funds research projects between partner universities.
It is worth noting that Mansoura University is one of the Egyptian universities partnering with the Erasmus program, and the university receives many faculty members from European universities partnering with the Erasmus program annually for training and teaching.
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Cherif Khater presented the delegation with the Mansoura University shield, and Prof. Tarek Ghalwash presented the shield of the Graduate Studies and Research Sector, and the two parties exchanged souvenirs.
It is noteworthy that the Turkish delegation's visit program included a tour inside Mansoura University; the Faculty of Nursing, the Vertebrate Paleontology Center at the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels.
