Mansoura University President Participates in the Meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities at Aswan University

Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, participated in the periodic meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, which was held on January 23, 2025, headed by Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the presence of Prof. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Council, and the Council members, at the headquarters of Aswan University.
According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Ayman Ashour directed the university hospitals to raise the maximum level of readiness to receive the wounded and injured in the Gaza Strip, in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in cooperation and coordination between the various concerned parties to provide all forms of support to the people in Gaza, after Egypt succeeded in cooperation with regional and international partners in reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
The Minister directed the rapid completion of the control work and the announcement of the results of the first semester exams for the current academic year to students as quickly as possible; to enable them to register for courses at the beginning of the second semester in all faculties that operate on the credit hour system.
The Council thanked all Aswan University staff, headed by Prof. Louay Saad El-Din, President of the University, for hosting the meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities. The council also extended congratulations to Prof. Abdel Aziz Qansouh for renewing and appointing him as President of Alexandria University, wishing him further progress and prosperity for the university during the coming period.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research also thanked the faculty members, and the administrative staff at the universities for their full discipline in organizing the final exams for the first semester of the current academic year 2024/2025. He also directed the necessity of completing all maintenance work during the mid-year vacation of the current academic year, and ensuring the availability and readiness of occupational safety and security equipment in all university buildings and facilities, in order to ensure the safety of all members of the academic community, as part of the universities' preparations to start studying in the second semester. He also stressed the importance of intensifying the efforts of universities during the vacation period in implementing activities and events, launching medical, veterinary and agricultural convoys, educational seminars, events and various activities, and contributing positively to capacity building in the health, environmental, veterinary and social fields, in cooperation with the "Decent Life" initiative, in order to activate the role of universities in serving society and developing the environment at the level of all governorates. He had also discussed the need for universities to continue to enhance belonging among university students, and to develop plans to intensify awareness campaigns for students to combat abnormal ideas.
Prof. Ayman Ashour praised the various and regular efforts of universities in implementing the presidential initiative "A New Beginning for Building the Human Being", and the provision of many diverse services by universities in various geographical regions, as universities launched many development convoys throughout the Republic to serve citizens, in order to activate the role of universities in serving society and developing the environment at the level of all governorates.
The Council listened to a report on the most prominent activities of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research during the month of January.
Prof. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the media advisor and official spokesperson for the ministry, stated that the council approved the decision of the Cairo University Council to establish a branch of Cairo University in the Emirate of Ajman in the United Arab Emirates, with the necessary legal measures taken in this regard. He added that the council approved the decision of the Alexandria University Council to establish a branch of Alexandria University in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, with the necessary legal measures taken in this regard. The council approved the completion of the procedures for allocating an area of 49,310 square meters to establish the integrated university complex in the Egyptian Universities Zone in the New Administrative Capital, as well as the headquarters of the Supreme Council of Universities.
The council approved the list of universities for which nominations will be opened to select university presidents, namely: Beni Suef University, Kafr El-Sheikh University, Matrouh University, Arish University, and Hurghada University.
The Council followed up on the efforts of Egyptian universities to serve the people of Gaza since the outbreak of the crisis until now. The report included a presentation of the services provided by the universities, including providing medical and therapeutic services in university hospitals, launching medical convoys, collecting donations and providing medicines for the people of Gaza, launching blood donation campaigns, supporting companions of injured cases, launching initiatives to support students in cooperation with civil society organizations, and providing doctors at the border crossing to contribute to treating the injured.
The Council listened to a presentation given by Prof. Hossam Othman, Deputy Minister for Innovation and Scientific Research, on the role of universities as a primary driver of innovation and sustainable development. The presentation also included discussing the final features of the Ministry's strategy to advance higher education and scientific research through artificial intelligence technology in a way that enhances the quality of life, growth and competitiveness of the state regionally and globally.
The Council also included a presentation given by Ambassador Nabila Makram, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, on the goals, visions and strategies of the alliance to achieve integration and create a database for volunteers, assist and encourage them to volunteer and create an effective umbrella for all community service entities.
