Mansoura University President receives Vice President of the University of Manchester during his visit to the Faculty of Medicine

-    The University of Manchester is a strategic partner in the university's medical sector for twenty years.

-    We are keen to implement the higher education strategy by enhancing cooperation with universities with a prestigious reputation and advanced ranking in international rankings.

Prof. Cherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, received on February 2, 2025, Prof. Alan Pacey, Vice President of the University of Manchester and Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, during his visit to Mansoura University, within the framework of enhancing joint cooperation between the two universities, in the presence of Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, Prof. Ashraf Shoma, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Ahmed Nagm, Director of the Mansoura-Manchester Medical Education Program, Prof. Rafik Barakat, Director of the Second Phase of the Program.

The visit comes within the framework of enhancing joint cooperation, discussing topics related to the partnership between the two sides, and examining mechanisms for maximizing cooperation to extend to postgraduate studies.

Prof. Cherif Khater welcomed the Vice President of the University of Manchester to Mansoura University, stressing the university's keenness to enhance cooperation with the University of Manchester as a strategic partner in the medical sector over 20 years, which resulted in the launch of the first international medical education program in Egyptian universities in the field of medical education, which is in line with its strategy of openness to global cultures to benefit from shared experiences and expertise. He pointed out the university's keenness to implement the directives of the political leadership to expand the horizons of cooperation with universities with a prestigious reputation and advanced ranking in international rankings within the framework of the higher education strategy.

Prof. Alan Pacey expressed his pleasure with this visit, stressing the long history of Mansoura University and its prestigious position globally, and the advancement of its study levels to the extent that made it an ideal model for joint cooperation. He also expressed his pride in the extended partnership with Mansoura University, stressing that it is a model to be emulated among Egyptian universities.

The University President reviewed a detailed description of the university’s location and its area of 300 acres, where 180,000 students study at the undergraduate level, and 40,000 at the postgraduate level, within 18 faculties, and it has many accredited educational programs, as well as obtaining institutional accreditation, as the first Egyptian university to be accredited by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education in Egypt, and 10 of its faculties have obtained accreditation, and it also has a medical sector that includes 13 hospitals and specialized medical centers, with a prestigious reputation and position locally and globally.

 Prof. Alan Pacey also presented the history of the University of Manchester as one of the oldest universities in the United Kingdom, founded in 1824, and located in the city of Manchester, which is considered an important urban and cultural center. It is considered one of the leading research universities that offers a wide range of academic and professional programs, noting that it is distinguished by providing an advanced educational environment that supports scientific research and the development of skills among students. It also has a large number of faculties and institutes that cover various academic disciplines, through four schools, including the Faculty of Medicine and Human Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, the Faculty of Humanities, and the Faculty of Life Sciences.

Prof. Tarek Ghalwash said that the university values international relations as a vital element in enhancing the university's position on the global stage. He also pointed out that the university is in the process of establishing a graduate school for interdisciplinary programs specializing in providing flexible and integrated postgraduate programs between different specializations, in light of the university's keenness to develop interdisciplinary educational programs that are compatible with future jobs and the development of skills in the labor market, which resulted in the university achieving 67th place globally and 2nd locally in the results of the first edition of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for Interdisciplinary Specializations.

Prof. Ashraf Shoma pointed out that the Faculty of Medicine has graduated 14 batches from the Mansoura Manchester Medical Education Program so far, stressing the distinguished level of the program's graduates, which was reflected in their obtaining distinguished job opportunities and their presence in major medical institutions in Egypt and the world, as the faculty is keen to provide students with comprehensive foundations in medical sciences and scientific research methodology. Students also receive clinical training that is made available through university hospitals and specialized medical centers.

At the end of the meeting, Prof. Cherif Khater presented the Mansoura University Shield to Prof. Alan Pacey in appreciation of his tireless efforts to maximize cooperation with the University of Manchester.

It is worth noting that the visit program of the Vice President of the University of Manchester includes a meeting with the Mansoura Program Administration and the managers of the various teams, and faculty members of the Faculty of Medicine, then a tour of the Faculty of Medicine to inspect the lecture halls and laboratories designated for Manchester students, then a visit to the Gastrointestinal Surgery Center as a model for university hospitals where students are scientifically trained, and finally an inspection of the project to establish the distinguished medical educational building "Manchester" at the Faculty of Medicine, which extends over an area of 1400 square meters, and an additional annex with an area of 120 square meters, with a height of 8 floors. The building includes 4 educational lecture halls, 2 halls for credit hours, 2 skills laboratories, 2 simulation laboratories, in addition to 40 rooms for small educational groups, which is expected to be delivered and enter educational service next academic year
