A medical team at Mansoura University Children's Hospital succeeds in extracting coins from a child's stomach

A medical team at the Gastroenterology Unit at the University Children's Hospital at Mansoura University succeeded in extracting 13 coins from the stomach of a 15-year-old child. The hospital had received a child suffering from severe pain while swallowing and a chest x-ray was performed, which showed the presence of coins in the esophagus. Immediately, when the case was presented to Prof. Mohamed Ezz, Head of the Gastrointestinal Unit, the decision was made to perform an urgent endoscopic intervention to extract the coin in the esophagus. The medical team succeeded in extracting all 13 coins in the esophagus, safely and without complications, and placed the patient under medical care until he recovered. The endoscopy was performed under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Megahed, Professor of gastroenterology, Prof. Sherine El-Zeiny, Assistant Professor of gastroenterology, Dr. Israa Zeinhom, Assistant Lecturer, and Dr. Ahmed Hassan.
Prof. Cherif Khater, President of Mansoura University, praised the success of the medical team in performing the medical intervention for the child, explaining that this success is a new addition to the record of successes of the University Children's Hospital and the excellence of its medical staff. He extended his thanks and appreciation to the administration of university hospitals, headed by Prof. Ashraf Shoma, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Al-Shaarawy Kamal, Executive Director of University Hospitals, for their efforts and tireless pursuit of providing quality medical services at the highest level. He also sent a message of greetings and appreciation to Prof. Ashraf Al-Sharqawi, Director of the Children's Hospital, Prof. Ayman Hammad, Head of Pediatrics Departments, Prof. Mohamed Ezz, Head of the Gastroenterology and Liver Unit at the hospital, the medical team that performed the endoscopy, and the work team within the unit, which is one of the distinguished units in the Republic that provides many specialized quality medical services in the field of diagnosis and treatment of Gastroenterology and liver diseases for children in Egypt, especially the Delta region.
