, Prof. Mamdouh El-Damaty, former Minister of Antiquities, hosted a scientific symposium at the Faculty of Arts

Former Minister of Antiquities chairs the committee for the discussion of a doctoral thesis in ancient Egyptian antiquities

Prof. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Tarek Ghalwash, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, received Prof. Mamdouh El-Damaty, former Minister of Antiquities, on April 26, 2025, during his visit to the university to participate in a scientific symposium and discuss a doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Arts.

The symposium was attended by Prof. Mahmoud Soliman El-Gaeidi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Prof. Ayman Wahby, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Dina Abu El-Ela, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts for Community Service and Environmental Development; Father Angelius Halim, Priest of the Virgin Mary Church in Ezbet El-Nakhl; Father Mikhail Wagdy, Priest of the Church of St. Stephen in Mansoura; and Dr. Mariam Wissa, Director of the Center for the Care of Innovators and Geniuses. At the university, Dr. Karim Abdel Ghani, Coordinator of Student Activities at the Faculty, and Dr. Nisreen Sadek, Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology.

During the meeting, Prof. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi welcomed Prof. Mamdouh El-Damaty to Mansoura University, praising his distinguished academic and scientific history and his outstanding efforts in serving archaeology and Egyptian civilization. He expressed the university's appreciation for this visit, which represents a qualitative addition to the university's academic activities.

Prof. Tarek Ghalwash said that hosting a prominent scientist as Prof. Mamdouh El-Damaty enhances research and scientific activity within the university and supports its goals of achieving excellence and leadership regionally and internationally.

Prof. Mahmoud Suleiman El-Gaeidi also emphasized the Faculty of Arts' endeavor to build effective bridges of communication between researchers and prominent academic figures, believing in the role of scientific meetings and seminars in developing scientific research, honing student skills, and consolidating a culture of academic openness.

Prof. Mamdouh Eldamaty expressed his great pleasure at the warm welcome, expressing his great pride in visiting Mansoura University. He praised its pioneering academic standing and its growing role in enriching scientific research, particularly in archaeological studies and ancient Egyptian civilization. He had also delivered a distinguished lecture entitled "Pages from Ancient Egyptian Civilization." The lecture was organized by the Faculty of Arts in cooperation with the Faculty's Student Union and the Students for Egypt family. The lecture was moderated by Prof. Hamdi Shahin, Professor of English Literature and former Head of the English Department.

The lecture addressed various aspects of ancient Egyptian civilization, focusing on artistic, architectural, and intellectual achievements, highlighting the lessons learned from them to build a brighter future. The symposium witnessed significant interaction from the students and faculty members in attendance.

The symposium was held under the supervision of Prof. Ayman Wahby, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Karim Abdel Ghani, Faculty Activities Coordinator, and Mr. Abdulrahman Zaid, Director of Student Services at the faculty.

Prof. Mamdouh Eldamaty also chaired the examination and evaluation committee for the doctoral dissertation submitted by researcher Dina Youssef Lamei Marcos, entitled:

"Religious Debate in the Side Chambers of the Hibis Temple in the Kharga Oasis." The committee included Prof. Ayman Wahbi Taher, Professor of Ancient Egyptian Archaeology and Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Arts, Mansoura University (principal supervisor), and Prof. Tarek Sayed Tawfik, Professor of Ancient Egyptian Archaeology at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University (external examiner).
